A merchant account provides a business with the ability to accept credit cards and debit cards for purchases.

A merchant account entails:

  • Processing Services – To set up a merchant account, a business ‘owner’ or ‘merchant’ must apply through a merchant service provider such as a bank or independent representative.  Approval of a merchant account depends on factors such as: applicant credit score, business/industry type, how cards will be processed, business volume, and business policies.
  • Processing Rates & Fees – There are various fees associated with a merchant account.  Usually they involve three types of costs:
    • Discount Rate: This fee is a percentage of the volume of the transaction. Each sale is processed on a qualification level based on the type of card used and how it is accepted and processed.  Typical differences are debit/check card use, swipe vs. key enter transaction, and consumer or corporate/international card type
    • Transaction or Authorization Fee: This fee is charged for each electronic authorization request and transaction made. It is flat dollar amount per item.
    • Monthly Fee: Monthly fees may consist of a monthly fee, monthly minimum, Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance, and others depending on processor.
  • Processing System – To process credit card payments, processing equipment or software is required to capture the card information, make authorization request, and close sales.  Depending on business need, equipment options include physical terminals, PC software, internet gateway solutions, and/or mobile phone solutions. 

To maximize efficiency and minimize costs, it is important for the merchant to have the right processing service, rates & fees, and system to meet their needs.

Credit Cards: We will set your account so you can accept Visa®, Mastercard®, American Express®, Discover®, and Diner’s Club®. Your account can be customized to accept the cards you decide.

Debit/Check Cards: You can also customize your account to accept ATM debit and check cards for a lower rate than credit cards. Cards are dipped, swiped or key punched just like credit cards, but you are charged a lower rate. No extra steps or identification, the account setup recognizes the card type.

Electronic Checks: We can offer a range of options from electronic check conversion to check guarantee. Check conversion allows paper checks to be converted to electronic transactions, saving you a trip to the bank. Check guarantee also converts the paper check to an electronic transaction. You get paid on all qualified transactions. NO MORE COLLECTIONS.

Gift Cards: Create your own gift cards and build brand awareness and increase shopping frequency (minimums starting at only 100 cards.) Unlike paper gift certificates, the value is retained on partially used cards and you retain 100% of the purchased value.

Electronic Invoice: Email or text an electronic invoice to request payment for a product or service from a client or other buyer. The buyer can click through and pay via credit card on a secure payment page.

Recurring/Installments: Ability to automatically charge a customer’s credit card in the amount due each month for payments for goods or services. The customer gives permission for ongoing payments or a set number of installments.

Equipment: We offer a full range of physical terminals from Verifone, Ingenico, PAX and many more. We can set you up with full POS functionality with Clover. You can also process payments through your computer, website, mobile or wireless solutions.

eCommerce: eCommerce processing requires integration between your website and your merchant services account. The connection is created via gateway or shopping cart. We can work with you and your web designer to provide credit card payment for your online transactions. We work with numerous shopping carts and many gateways including Authorize.net, Converge and eProcessingNetwork.

Online Account Access: Online access to your account – ANY TIME, ANY DAY – FOR FREE. Track your payments or view your statement online from any Internet connection. Each processor and gateway we work with provides online access to view your account, review reports, and provide additional functionality. It’s easy!
